Christmas Projects

Christmas is coming! It's going to be different to any other we've experienced - so it's extra important to demonstrate the love of Jesus by giving to others. Please consider how you might get involved.

Christmas Dinner Hampers

OLLBC Food Stop (3)

Old Lodge Lane Baptist Church Food Stop plans to deliver 50 Christmas Dinner Hampers to families and individuals who are financially struggling in our community. They say:

Food poverty is a very real problem in our community today! The Covid-19 pandemic has made things worse with people losing jobs, being furloughed and finding themselves in a dysfunctional benefits system. Christmas should be a time of peace and joy but if you are struggling to put food on the table, Christmas is an added stress. We can't solve this problem by giving hampers but maybe we can make things easier and ensure that 50 families have a wonderful Christmas Dinner and hopefully bring a smile and hope to those people.

They have asked for support – prayer and practical help to:

  • Sponsor one of more hampers - £25 each
  • Volunteer on Tuesday 22 December, evening to help sort and pack hampers (training date tba)
  • Volunteer on Wednesday 23 December to help with deliveries (training date tba)

Deadline for donations and offers to volunteer: Monday 7 December. Donations towards hampers can be given through their Just Giving pageContact Old Lodge Lane Baptist Church if you wish to volunteer: office@ollbc.org.uk

churches-togetherChurches Together will once again be running their Christmas Projects, but slightly differently to in previous years.

Christmas Lunch on Jesus Hampers

The plan is to support 100 local families in crisis by giving supermarket vouchers to be used to purchase a Christmas meal - vouchers are for an Aldi supermarket and cannot be used for alcohol, the lottery or tobacco. This replaces the usual provision of hampers.

Toys for Joy

A financial donation will be given to local children’s centres for them to use to support vulnerable children/families who they work with. This is instead of the collection of toys. To contribute to either of these projects:

  • Donate online - reference: Christmas Projects
  • Send a cheque payable to Purley Food Hub with ‘Christmas Projects’ written on the reverse, to: Joanna Walker, Purley Food Hub, c/o Purley Baptist Church, Banstead Road, CR8 3EA

Christmas-Angel-logo-normalTo those who knit: please prepare angels to take flight in December! As in previous years, we plan to bless individuals in Purley by leaving knitted angels with Bible verse tag, around town for people to pick up and keep.
