Conversations with God
Prayer is a conversation with God and can be similar to our conversations with people. Your prayer may be a short cry for help or maybe a long outpouring of hurt and pain. It could be some words of thanks or perhaps ‘Hi, I am here, can I chat to you?’. Most of the time our prayers are whatever is on our hearts and in our minds.
Prayer is not about eloquent words or about saying the right things, it is about honesty and vulnerability. God loves to hear from us and to talk to us, he is always listening and he always understands how we feel. Prayer is a real privilege. Could you ever imagine that the creator of the universe would want to listen and talk to you? Well he does, so why not give it a try!
Reading a prayer written by others can often helpful. Eg. the prayer found in the Bible that Jesus taught his disciples:
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be your name,
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For yours is the kingdom,
The power and the glory,
For ever and ever.
