Christmas at PBC

Christmas Lights Switch-On Event

Saturday 30 November 5pm
Grounds of the United Reformed Church, next to Purley Hospital

We are pleased to provide a Christmas Lights Switch-On event for Purley. In addition to the countdown to the switch-on, this year will be led by the characters from that first Christmas! Children/parents are invited to meet us at the United Reformed Church (next to the Purley Hospital) from 3.45pm to go on a treasure hunt to find the characters, and receive a prize for a completed card. At 5pm there will be performances from school choirs, Christmas carols accompanied by a Salvation Army Band, the Christmas story with a nativity tableau and of course, the grand switching on of Purley’s angel Christmas lights!
This event is for everyone. We want to use Purley’s Christmas lights to share the good news of Jesus’s birth.

Christmas Angels in Purley

We plan to bless people in Purley with gifts of hand-knitted Christmas angels. Angels will be distributed around the town in the lead up to Christmas and invite the finder to keep the angel and go to churchestogetherpurleykenley.org.uk/ for what this is about, including a video message on the real meaning of Christmas.
If you can knit and would like to help make some angels, the pattern is available at http://www.christmasangel.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Christmas-Angel.pdf

Toys for Joy

In partnership with the Purley Food Hub
In partnership with other agencies, we are collecting toys (and donations towards toys) to give presents to approx. 200 children (aged up to 17 years) whose parents wouldn’t ordinarily be able to provide these.
Bring your toy to PBC by Sunday 8 December or to the Christmas Lights Switch-On event on Saturday 30 November, at Purley United Reformed Church.

Christmas Lunch on Jesus

In partnership with the Purley Food Hub
Once again we plan to deliver 150 hampers to bless families who find the additional expense of Christmas difficult. Lots of volunteers are needed to make this possible. Individuals can donate at £30 each, or help in packing and delivering hampers. Volunteers will need to attend a short training session. Please contact cloj.purleyfoodhub@icloud.com for more details.
