PBC is paired with Bulyaasi Village in Buikwe, Uganda as part of the International Needs WASH Water Programme.
Our goal was to raise £25,000 over 2 years to support Bulyaasi with a package of interventions that will help them increase sanitation, hygiene and local access to safe water. The package includes drilling new wells, fixing old wells, building toilets and making hand washing facilities. It also includes training and hygiene education in schools and the community.
We have now exceeded our total goal of £25,000, the amount needed to fully fund the WASH Programme for Bulyaasi Village. At the last count we had reached £27,904.26. Fundraising to date has involved: 2 runners completing a 10K Run, 3 runners completing the London Marathon, a cake sale, a quiz evening and even a shaved head.
Bill & Trish McIlroy visited Uganda for an International Needs celebration in September 2019. Bill provided a short update:
Over 2,000 attended the grand celebration! An arena specially pitched for the occasion, was set out with chairs 14 rows deep on three sides, under loads of gazebos. Children from the Primary and Secondary schools and young people from the vocational training school, entertained us with singing, drama and dance. Then there were speeches and a brief impromptu Q & A with me, following my 23 years of visiting Uganda. The most moving part was when former students told us how much attending the schools had changed their lives. Tears filled the corners of our eyes. Finally lunch was provided. At the high point of the Worship & Thanksgiving Service, Justus Miwanga finished with the words: we want to shine - we cannot shine alone - so walk with us.
So what next? We are hoping to continue our fundraising for another project in Uganda...watch this space. We are also planning for a team from PBC to visit Bulyaasi in 2020.
