Running Buddies

As we run the race, it’s important to have other runners alongside us! Running Buddies are partners of 2, 3 or 4 people who run (spiritually) alongside each other and provide regular encouragement, challenge and accountability. You might like to use this guide as you prepare for your First Running Buddy Meet-Up.

Key principles

  1. Intentional They have a clear purpose and aim (Phil 3:12-14)
  2. Accountable They are relationships built on openness and honesty in an intimate setting (Heb. 12:1).
  3. Places to be Challenged Alongside sharing openly there has to be an element of challenging each other to towards holy living (1 Corinthians 9:24-27)
  4. Places of Encouragement They are a place where people are encouraged to live out the Great Command and the Great Commission. (Heb. 10:24)

Guidance for getting started

  • Join a Life Group. LGs help provide a community of a dozen believers who meet regularly to build friendships, grow faith & partner in expressing God’s love to others.
  • It's organic. The church does not match people up. It’s about you asking who God has provided you with to run the race.
  • Be intentional. It’s important you have a goal. That you ask each other “How do we want to grow in our relationship with God as we meet together?”
  • Have structure. Good discipleship often happens whilst going through a Christian book or a book of the Bible. Take a look at some of the helpful resources below.
  • They can be seasonal. They don’t have to be a lifelong commitment. Who you run with may change over time.
